The Tomcod (Microgadus tomcod) can tolerate a wide range of salinities. Generally thought of as marine fish, there are indeed freshwater populations of land-locked Tomcod. Jemseg River and Grand Lake are very far inland for this species.![]()
Like many cod species, Tomcod sport barbels on their chins, and three dorsal fins on their backs!![]()

The Burbot (Lota lota) is the only exclusively freshwater fish in its taxonomic order! While others also may be in freshwater, only the burbot cannot be in saltwater.![]()
It prefers very deep water, and is more active in the night.![]()
