The Slimy Sculpin (Cottus cognatus) is a nocturnal fish that has an easy time hiding on the bottom due to its camouflage and lack of a swim bladder. Its lesser buoyancy gives it the appearance of hopping along when it swims. ![]()
While it has lookalikes elsewhere, this fish should be easily identifiable in our watershed.![]()
Their sensitivity to acidification gives them use as an indicator species.![]()
