Let’s meet a new fish each Friday! This fish was included in the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development August 2022 Report for at least one of our lakes. While the Northern Redbelly Dace (Chrosomus eos) is named for its bright red belly, only the breeding males display this coloration during the appropriate season; which lasts from May to August. They also have black stripes, the higher of which may break into dots past the dorsal fin. These dace tend to only be five or six centimeters, and can live up to about eight years.#fish #newbrunswick #nature #conservation ... Let’s meet a new fish each Friday! This fish was included in the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development August 2022 Report for at least one of our lakes. The Longnose Sucker (Catostomus catostomus) has an elongated snout with a circular suction disc (resembling large lips) that allows it to attach to things in rapid water. To eat, it sucks up algae, plants, and small invertebrates. This helps keep the waters clean and clear. It is native to both North America and Russia, making it one of two native Suckers in Asia. They often have dark olive coloration on their dorsal sides.#fish #newbrunswick #nature #conservation ...
